California Fall Outdoor Tabletop

I know we don’t get the fall weather in CA like most people, so I have to do what I can to make it feel a little more like the cooler seasons around the house. I like to bring out the darker, warmer accessories and add heavier textures where I can. So when it came to putting together a tabletop for fall, I pulled out a moody palette and balanced it with some of my favorite bright linens + glassware.

the details

I took a quick vote over on insta between some color palettes for the plates, this was the winner by FAR. It let the way for the flower choices and a few of the other accessories I added to the table.

Flatware

I wanted to stay clear of the obvious choices, so I went with a champagne finish for the flatware. I did love the black, but this helped the entire table feel less “halloween”.

Flowers

This was such a fun one! I used A LOT of different flowers, more than I usually do. But I wanted to be sure to balance the orange with some softer peaches and white. You can watch it all come together here.

Glassware

Too many glasses? Never. I used 3 as I REALLY wanted to use the tall wine glass as well as the ribbed water glass. So it was balanced with another simple glass that sat right in the middle. If you tend to serve a signature cocktail as well as wine, the 3 glass situation totally works;)

fall entertaining tips

  • Add blankets. Whether you are indoors or out, it is cooling off, and it’s so comforting to have something to wrap up in if you’re feeling a little chilly.

  • Add a favor to your place card. I love bundles of palo santo, it is something everyone can take home and actually use. I added a bit of dried florals to this on to add some interest to the plate.

  • Set out the snacks. If guests are going to be seated for a bit before or in between being served, give them a little something to snack on. I love a bread basket and bowl of olives.

  • Keep your flowers low. No one wants to have to adjust in their seat to look at someone across the table!
