a summer bohemian brunch || entertaining
Summer is just a few short days away and it's time to celebrate with parties, brunches, backyard barbecues and happy hours. I've had ideas piling up for a simple summer brunch and thought that the launch of the new site (click over and see it if you are in your reader!) was the perfect time to create that for you guys. I wanted it to feel a bit bohemian, with pops of color but muted enough for us that love our neutrals, relaxed and be a setting you could recreate in your own home. With a few rugs, pillows and benches pulled from around our home, I set up a picnic style seating area, prepared a few easy dishes + cocktail (which i'll share soon) and invited a few friends over to celebrate with me.
To create a cozy seating area, I used our pink rug as a base followed by layered smaller rugs from here. Pile up the pillows and add some fresh flowers. Beautiful Savage Flowers created these overflowing arrangements for the brunch with a mix of peonies, poppies and dahlias.
A new take on the mimosa was served with plenty of extra champagne to top of your glass. A large outdoor planter was used to hold the bubbly instead of your traditional ice bucket.
Menu's were designed with a touch of calligraphy to let friends know what was coming next.
Inspired by the cake in a jar trend, I took it one step further for our brunch… instead of cake, grab some plain donuts. Follow that by a layer of vanilla icing and top with your favorite cereal!
Brunch without booze is nothing but a sad, late breakfast. Truth.
Don't forget a summer inspired favor! Pick up some fresh strawberries or your favorite fruit, pop in a cute basket they can keep (you can purchase these ceramic crates here) and add a fun activity. I designed these 'Summer To-Do' printables which i'll be sharing soon for you to use at your own parties this summer! Your friends can take these home and add in their bucket list items for the next few months.
Brunch is seriously one of my favorite things to host. I think mostly because you are forced to have things prepped or choose simple items since you don't have a full day to cook and decorate. Which means, for me, less stress! In the next few days I have some ideas from this get together that you can use as well! I'll be sharing my new favorite breakfast sandwich, a breakfast salad (yes! a salad for breakfast), a new twist on the mimosa, your summer to do list printable and a recap of all the paper goods designed specifically for this brunch.
PS. What do you guys think of the new site?!
