Master Bathroom Mini Makeover || Our Plans

master bathroom neutral mini makeover

As lots of the projects go in our home, we get a creative burst, tear something out, and then can never find the time to continue or finish (oops). So while we’ve been dreaming of updating our master bath for years, it just never happened. It’s also one of the most inconvenient places to renovate if you ask me (besides the kitchen).

We started updating our guest bath a few months ago and, spoiler, it’s still in the works. The original plan was to update the guest bathroom and once that was done (since we would have a bathroom to use), move on to the master. I’m pretty impatient, and honestly i want a place i enjoy being in to spend my mornings. What we have right now is not it.

So after some persuading, I convinced my husband this would be a super fun project to share with all of you (it’s now considered “work”) and am kicking off a mini makeover in our master bath. I will likely be doing almost all of it myself and sharing the process along the way.

Here’s the plan:

  • Paint the cabinets. I think this is going to make THE biggest impact. They’re currently a red tone wood that is getting pretty dated. I’m going with a black paint.

  • Smooth out the texture on the walls and paint a taupe color.

  • Replace mirrors, lighting and hardware.

  • Add a small makeup vanity area in the corner opposite of our countertop

  • Adding a barn door to the toilet/shower area and a bi-fold door to the closet (not shown but going to be a HUGE change)

What I am not doing because this is supposed to be mini:

  • I won’t be replacing the countertop. When we do renovate, I think that is a better time in case we reconfigure the sink situation.

  • Floor will stay the same for now as well and mostly because the tile that is currently there will be a bitch to remove. Saving it for the bigger reno.

Pieces I’d LOVE to use in the makeover

So basically, simple cosmetic updates that I should be able to tackle in a few weekends. With each separate project, I hope that it encourages and inspires all of you to tackle small things in your home, on your own (as long as everybody agrees on the changes haha). Sometimes something really small like swapping a mirror or hardware on your cabinets can improve your mood every time you walk in the room. Totally worth a weekend if you ask me.
