5 Ways To Incorporate Dried Flowers Into Your Wedding Stationery
I have always been a fan of layering. Whether it’s in my home with accessories on shelves, layering pieces to make an outfit more interesting, or in my work with wedding stationery. The more layers something has, the more interest and appeal it takes on for the viewer (in my opinion).
There comes a time though, when there are only so many ways you can layer paper in a stationery suite. So when the dried flower movement took over, I was SO happy that we had something new to incorporate. These days, dried flowers are used pretty consistently by our clients. It’s an inexpensive way to add a natural touch to their designs.
If you’re looking for some simple ways to add in these blooms to your own projects, or designs that you are working with us on, here are a few ideas that we love + have used for clients recently.
Place Cards
This is the easiest way to play around with dried blooms. You can use almost anything as you don’t have to worry about stiff pieces breaking in the mail, and you can also think about them as a tiny favor for your guests to keep.
From left to right
No. 1 - We tucked a few tiny stems under a clip and layered a vellum place card on top of a heavier/larger piece of cardstock. The color possibilities are endless here when it comes to paper, clips, and even flowers.
No. 2 - On the mustard place card we accented each one with a book dart and a bunny tail. The metal addition instantly elevates the look of a simple place card.
No. 3 - Mini bulldog clips and dried baby’s breath was placed on the top of these vertical place cards (a fun variation of the standard place card). The bulldog clips are super strong and can work on thick place card materials paired with heavier dried stems.
No. 4 - The band + wax seal combo
This is definitely a client favorite. The great thing about this is that it goes inside your envelope and is protected. Your guests open the outer envelope to reveal a special design that you have created to pair with your suite. I think that using the wax seal along is beautiful, but definitely much more classic. Adding in a few bunny tails like we did here modernizes a simple suite and add some playfulness.
One thing to note though is that as these do get processed when mailing, it’s smart to go with a more flexible flower that is not easily crushed. Bunny tails have worked well for us in the past and even come in a variety of colors.
No. 5 - The inner envelope + wax seal combo
Another wax seal, but this time on your inner envelope. In this case you would also need to plan on outer envelopes if you were mailing.
Bunny tails + a tiny sprig of pampas grass is the perfect flexible combo that does well in the mail.
We love this idea for a smaller batch that you might be hand delivering as well. You can mix in some more delicate flowers and experiment with fun wax seal colors to create an envelope closure that no one will want to open (in a good way;)
