Casa Nómada || Interior Styling
The day is here that I mentioned in my last post! Today I made it official and added the Interior Decorating + Styling offering to my site. Seems like a small step, but it’s been a while in the making. Years of working on my own personal interiors finally led to a few requests this year for my help.
With the launch of this new offering, it only seemed appropriate to share one of the homes I consulted on and styled, Casa Nómada. The owner Courtney reached out looking for a bit of styling help. She furnished most of the home, but felt that there were a few pieces missing and it needed some final tweaks to help make the images for her airbnb listing really pop.
Courtney and her husband purchased the home in the summer of 2020. They took the house from completely outdated to a modern oasis with clean design and unique materials. Doing almost all of the renovations themselves, they completed the 2 bed, 1 bath home in just a few short months. Eye catching details like their bold choice in countertops, concrete coated walls, and a beautiful outdoor shower make their new place a unique find on airbnb. PROJECT DETAILS
We scheduled 2 meetings. The first to walk through the home and do a quick critique. During the walk through she shared her vision for each space and explained what she felt was lacking. Initially, we worked with what was already in the home and rearranged a few spaces, moving pieces from room to room to improve the flow and feel of each individual space. From there, I suggested a few items that she could source to make everything look complete.
A second set of eyes can be so valuable. When you are furnishing and decorating a home, it’s easy to get tunnel vision. You forget that things can change, things can move, and things can be removed. It’s not always about purchasing new accessories and furniture which is exactly what we did at Casa Nómada.
Here are a few styling tips we used in Courtney’s space:
To bring the local Joshua Tree surroundings inside, Courtney foraged branches to use as decor. This is a great way to add texture and fill space without spending anything. It also ties the inside of your home to the surrounding area.
We knew we needed some books for stacking and styling, so Courtney stuck to a color palette and found used books that cost $0
One of the biggest problems was in the living space when we started. It felt a bit cold and bare. We pulled an extra rug and layered it with the rug that was already in the room. It added warmth and texture helping pull the room together.
Many items were moved from room to room to play with color. Just because you have an intended spot for something, doesn’t mean it must stay there.
And finally, don’t be afraid to remove things. In the end we pulled quite a few accessories that were cluttering spaces and just didn’t flow. If something feels off, subtract and see if that helps… it almost always does!
On our second meeting, we did a final styling session with new items that Courtney sourced. Once everything was in place, we shot the entire house for her Airbnb listing.

Creating lifestyle content for social media
Additionally, Casa Nómada needed content to share on social media. After shooting the photos of just the house, we spent a few hours styling and shooting lifestyle content. When creating your instagram feed for a home, it is 100% recommended to include lifestyle images so that it doesn’t become a replica of your rental listing. Lifestyle images give your home and feed… Life! People want to know what it looks and feels like to actually stay there.

Brainstorming the lifestyle portion of the shoot for Casa Nómada was a collaboration of ideas from both the owner, Courtney, and I. She had great ideas for what she wanted her content to feel like, and with an outside perspective, we brought ideas that would be enticing as a potential customer or renter. We brought props (flowers, food, etc.) based on our brainstorm, created a shot list to work through, and spent the second half of the day creating content, pups included! We wanted to show people everything they could expect to do in the space; have cocktails on the patio, enjoy the outdoor shower on a hot day, bring your pets to enjoy the space with you, or cook in the beautiful kitchen for friends and family.
